See how the light tenderly love the apricots, it takes them over completely, enters into their pulp, light them from all sides! But it is miserly with the peaches and light only one side of them.

It is a long while since I did a colour challenge, but I love the excuse they give me to rummage through my archives. So I’ve pulled together a selection for Terri’s Sunday Stills challenge this week.
Her chosen colour is apricot, which I found a little hard to pin down. Is it orange? Is it pink? Is it maybe peach? Wikipedia defines it as a light yellowish-orangish similar to the colour of apricots, but paler than actual apricots.
As a variation on orange, apricot has many of the same associations and qualities. It is said to symbolise positive emotions, such as elation, excitement, joy, success, inspiration, and stimulation. I hope my selection below creates similarly positive vibes. Some, I confess, have been edited to emphasise or draw out their apricot tones. But the apricots in my featured photo are real, on a stall in the Jamaa el Fna in Marrakesh.

Continually impressed with the vastness of your photo collection and your ability to access just the right choices for any challenge. Excellent representation of Apricot.

Thanks so much Suzanne 😊 I do spend a fair bit of time digging around in various folders, although I’m trying to get more organised and start tagging my photos!

I liked your first picture, of the gorgeous rose, and the last one, of the unique fountain. I was thinking the fountain photo would be a good one for the one to three photo challenge.
Sarah Wilkie
Thanks Siobhan 🙂 Yes, it could be interesting to experiment with the fountain shot, I’ll bear that in mind.

I’d say that is apricot alright. Wonderful responses to the challenge!
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you – glad you feel I hit the colour right, it was a challenging one 🙂

Great job of rising to the challenge. Love that your first shot is apricots!
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you 🙂 Yes, even though I was citing Wikipedia’s claim that the colour apricot is different from actual apricots, and the dried ones are even darker, I couldn’t resist including them!

I’m wearing an apricot coloured top to work today! Lol. Your photos made me realise I really like this colour!
Sarah Wilkie
If you’re wearing it you must like it indeed 🙂 I love it for flowers, walls and skies, as you can see, but could never wear it – warm colours do nothing for me!

I can’t read, see or hear anything about Jamaa el Fna without smiling. What a unique place it is. You must have dug very deep into your archives to put this collection together!
Sarah Wilkie
It did take quite a rummage 😆 Glad to have brought back good memories of Marrakesh!

Thanks so much Aletta 🙂

Wow, what a gorgeous gallery of ‘apricot’ photos! I’m having the same trouble as you are, pinning down apricot, but I think you won!
Sarah Wilkie
I’m sure you’ll succeed too, Susanne!

That remains to be seen! 😉 🙂

What a selection! You did a great job finding all of these. I love apricot-colored roses so it’s nice to see those. But the sheer variety is really outstanding…the wall series works beautifully and all the silhouettes in the sky series tie them together.
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you so much Lynn 😊 I started simply with a random folder of possible images but then I started to see the four categories emerge – well, three categories and a dumping ground for the rest! I’m glad you felt it worked as a post 🙂

You did a great job coming up with shots from your travels with the apricot theme. Funny description in Wikipedia about the word ‘apricot’ – how could it not be like the fruit? My favorites were the ones from Marakech with the oh so subtle hues.
Sarah Wilkie
Yes, I thought that was a little odd Annie but at the same time I could see what they mean, as I tend to think of apricot the colour as being paler than apricot the fruit 😆

What a wonderful and thorough gallery showcasing the various hues of the color of apricots, Sarah! I love that quote at the beginning, so true! That very last image in your set of the giant lotus fountain really shows the apricot hues. Architectural backdrops in those colors really showcase the object in front of them. I like that as a paint color. Your florals are amazing, I really love apricot when seen in a rose–roses really pull off the color so delicately. Glad you were inspired by the challenge–a treat for our eyes!
Sarah Wilkie
Thanks so much for the detailed feedback Terri 😊 I’m glad you liked the quote I found as well as the photos!

Lovely examples of this most appealing of colours. Can’t choose a favourite!
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you Margaret – and there’s never any obligation to pick 😆
