Greetings from California
The granite dome of Moro Rock in Sequoia National Park has been cut with 350 steps linked by short steep slopes. From part way up (confession, I didn’t make it to the top!) I looked out over the Great Western Divide. This mountain range in the Sierra Nevada, located largely in Sequoia National Park, has several peaks reaching well over 13,000 feet (3,962 metres).
I normally shoot always in colour and convert to monochrome later if I feel it could work well. But yesterday this view reminded me so much of Ansel Adams that I had to create my own homage to him. Not quite in his league for sure, but perfect for Monochrome Madness!

Nice shot. This is definitely Ansel Adams country!

Thank you Ruth 🙂 He was one of the factors inspiring us to visit this part of the states back in 1991, although we didn’t make it to Sequoia NP on that occasion

A hearty congrats for making it halfway, Sarah – I am suitably impressed! I can’t imagine your being able to capture a more magnificent shot if you’d gone any further. Ansel Adams would have no doubt considered you a worthy student.
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you Annie 😊 To be honest, I was a bit impressed myself, I’m not known for climbing lots of steps!! And funnily enough, having seen Chris’s photos from the top, the view wasn’t so very different!

It’s a stunning photo Sarah … you’ve captured the greatness of these mountains beautifully.
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you so much (blushing 😊)

Beautiful picture of the mountains. Your picture does have a very Ansel Adams feel to it 🙂
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you, I’m so pleased you think so

Thanks so much Leanne 😊

A lovely shot Sarah of what is clearly an incredibly dramatic landscape. I have just been Googling Ansel Adams… so impressive. I like the new postcard series format. Short, sweet and packs a punch.
Sarah Wilkie
Ansel Adams is a real hero of mine, I love his work! The postcards are my usual ‘on the road’ format – I like to keep the blog active with new posts from time to time but can’t really manage anything more substantial than this!
Alison
Excellent shot
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you Alison 😊
Suzanne
Forgot to write that your image has that Ansel Adams feel to it.
Sarah Wilkie
Aw, thank you Suzanne 😊

A varied landscape is far more interesting as is having four seasons. Incredible view which has to be experienced by the look of it.
Sarah Wilkie
Yes, definitely hard to convey the impact of this landscape, you really do need to see it!
Rose
Gorgeous!
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you Rose 🙂

We climbed that very same rock, terrific views of the Sierra Nevada from up there. It was very hot when we were there, too. Loved Sequoia.
Sarah Wilkie
We had manageable temperatures (high 20s C) but only Chris made it to the top! Now in Death Valley amd it’s scorching!
Teresa
Perfect monochrome, Sarah. Would have loved to climb that in my younger years haha. But not anymore. But happy for you, at least you’ve seen it in person.
Sarah Wilkie
Yes, I might well have got to the top when I was younger! But at least I got far enough to enjoy this view 😀 Thank you Teresa

Beautiful image Sarah! When we were in camping in Missouri, a woman noticed our California license plate and said she’d been in California. I asked how she liked it. She didn’t. Why? Because there were mountains! I think that’s why I love California. It has varied topography from flat farm land, to vineyard hills to majestic mountains.
Sarah Wilkie
I can’t imagine not liking mountains! And we were just saying this morning how varied the landscapes we’ve seen on this trip have been – coastal, forest, mountain and now desert in Death Valley 😀
Anne Sandler
That’s what’s amazing about California and most of the Western U.S. I’m glad you made it to Death Valley. I hope it’s cooled down!
Sarah Wilkie
I guess it’s cooler than in mid summer, but it hit 98F yesterday afternoon!

Quite a vista!

It was an amazing view! This is just a slice of it 😀
