We all have photos that didnβt make the final cut when selecting the best from a dayβs shooting, but which werenβt so disappointing that we discarded them. Maybe they are significant to us because of the subject matter even if we donβt feel they represent our best efforts. Or maybe we keep them planning to try to work on them in the future because we feel they have potential.
Whatever the reason we have for keeping them, I suspect that we all feel that we might one day have the chance to share them. For those of us participating in the Lens Artists challenge, that day is now! The team have asked us to share photos taken this year but not previously used in any post. I wasnβt sure if they meant any Lens Artists post or any post at all, but I decided to make life harder for myself by going for the latter option!
These are mostly photos that didnβt make the cut when I was selecting shots for my monthly Changing Seasons posts. Possibly because they were too close in subject matter to others I did choose; possibly because I was trying to keep the numbers down; or just as possibly because they werenβt among my favourite shots from that month!
I’ve chosen one from each month of the year and present them in chronological order.
Disclaimer: I accept it’s very possible that I overlooked a previous post containing at least one of these images!

Wonderful gallery!!

Thank you Nora π
Heyjude
I imagine that a lot of us have photos that never quite make it into a post. I certainly do. Then there are the ones that I earmark, but the chance slips by and like you I have photos that are in reserve for a future date. Nice to see what was on your cutting floor – great title btw!
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you Jude π This challenge was a fun excuse to fish out some of those photos!
Amy
What a wonderful photo review by month! Love your selections. Thank you for sharing. π
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you Amy, I’m happy you enjoyed them π
Sofia Alves
Love your selection, Sarah and I’m glad we had a chance to see them, they are fantastic. I especially love the new apartments, great composition on that one and the colours… wow!
Sarah Wilkie
Thanks so much Sofia π That development includes our new cinema so there are some ‘arty’ touches like the colour scheme in places!
JohnRH
Great photos all. Love ‘Living the Dream’, highway signs and all.
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you John π Always good to know about favourites among my selections!
Vicki
What a great variety of subject matter. The beautiful colours in the street art really caught my eye.
I love wildflower gardens. They make me smile and feel that nature is at her most relaxed with an abundance of natural blooms springing up here and there.
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you Vicki π Those wildflower patches in parks have become very popular around here in recent years. They look pretty, are great for bees and other pollinators, and they also save the local council money as they don’t have to cut so much grass!

Great swan and robin shots, Sarah. On the camper van front, there was one parked in Padstow on our last visit with the legend βOn an adventure before dementiaββ¦..!
Sarah Wilkie
Haha, that’s a good one too Phil, thank you π

Wonderful leftovers Sarah π

It must be the season, but I really do love the robin.
Sarah Wilkie
Hard to resist a robin and he’s an especially friendly one π

Very nice. I think I like June best.
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you. That patch of wild flower planting was a nice surprise in that small urban park π
Jim Earlam
The most surprising thing about this collection Sarah is that the traffic appears to be moving on the M25! Seriously, lovely pictures and I particularly like the colour of the boat contrasting against the blue sea π
Sarah Wilkie
I know what you mean Jim! That was quite early on a Sunday morning which might explain that π
Alli Templeton
Lovely lot of photos, Sarah, and none worthy of the cutting room floor! Love the robin and the swan, the wildflowers, the evening ship and, of course, that priceless sign on the back of the camper van! π
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you Alli π That robin is so happy to be close to people, we often see him there!
Anne Sandler
What a great year’s review Sarah. I especially like the fantastic colors in December and the beautiful wildflowers in June. This challenge is like buying a new dress, but not having a place to wear it until the chance finally comes.
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you Anne, I love that analogy!
EgΓdio
Sarah, I love all shots, and most especially, the summer photos. You had such great variety in this gallery. That was great!
Sarah Wilkie
Thanks so much Egidio, I’m glad you enjoyed our English summer π
Monkey's Tale
It shows how good the ones that make the posts are when these are the discarded ones. I missed seeing the lion statue in CuauhtΓ©moc, itβs awesome. Maggie
Sarah Wilkie
I grabbed that lion statue from a car which is why I only have this small detail of the monument π

Some people’s discards would be other people’s Prize Shots π€£
Sarah Wilkie
Haha, thanks for that comment Margaret π I wouldn’t claim to have actually discarded these, just not used them. You should see my real discards – or on second thoughts, probably you shouldn’t see them!

One of the things I like best about the Last Chance challenges is that they allow people to share images that were maybe favorites that didn’t make a theme, or as in your case, photos that were given a second chance to shine.
I really like your title shot. It displays the theme so nicely.
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you John – as I said to Tina below, I had fun creating that header with Canva π

I love the swan. Until someone commented on it, I wouldn’t have known that your photo of the little bird was a robin because the New World robin is so different.
Most of my photos that are substandard I mark with an N in front of the number (for not to use). Most of them are because of reflections as I take a photo through a window.
Rosalie
Sarah Wilkie
I’m glad to have introduced you to one of our cute little robins Rosalie π I did caption it as a robin so you shouldn’t have had to rely on the comments – are the captions not showing for you?
Tina Schell
Some terrific selections Sarah, so glad you had a chance to share them. Before anything else I wanted to comment on your header, which is brilliant and your title is perfect! The images as always are wonderful, I especially liked the funny camper sign, the marvelous colors of the flowers and your closing art.
Sarah Wilkie
Thanks so much Tina π I had fun with that header, which I created with Canva. I’m always interested to learn which are your favourites!
