Greetings from Coyoacan
These statues of Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera are in the courtyard of the City Hall in Coyoacan. This early colonial town, now swallowed up in the Mexico City metropolis, was Frida’s home for most of her life. Her house is today part-museum, part-shrine. I will take you there in a much more comprehensive post soon.

Two favorite artists of mine – their stories are so moving. Have you ever read The Lacuna by Barbara Kingsolver? They are in it. That first photo is great. Perhaps if it were in black and white, they would look like they are all there together. π

No I haven’t, but I’ll look for it now you tell me that! An interesting suggestion about a B&W edit – I’ll try that some time π

Managed to find your Posts again, they don’t even appear in my Reader nowadays but however. Loved the picture of Diego & Frida and thinking of you enjoying Mexico, somewhere we never managed to visit. I look forward to reading more about that fascinating country when you post.
Sarah Wilkie
Glad you managed to find me again π Mexico has been wonderful and we still have a few days to go. Lots to share on my return!

Enjoy the rest of your trip, and look forward to the next posts!
Sarah Wilkie
Sorry Sue, I just realised I never replied to this to thank you – i sometimes lose track when travelling π
Sue
Well, itβs fine to lose track when travelling!

I agree with Jude, though itβs possibly the sculptorβs attempt at a monobrow that makes her look perplexed, or even disgruntled. I donβt like the possessive way he has his hand on her shoulder!
Sarah Wilkie
I see what you mean although having learned more about their story I see that as protective rather than possessive.

That house is on my bucket list. She was a strong woman who would have been so interesting to meet.
Sarah Wilkie
I’m sorry, I just discovered this comment in my spam. Thank you, I hope you get there one day. I’ll share more about my visit some time after my return.

She was such a dynamic and beautiful woman. Love this statue of them π
Sarah Wilkie
Me too – I’m glad to have had the opportunity to learn more about her.
Heyjude
I wonder why she looks so perplexed.
Sarah Wilkie
Do you think she does? I didn’t get that from her.
Heyjude
She looks to be frowning to me. Hope you are having a good time over there!
Sarah Wilkie
Her monobrow tends to make her look frowning all the time. Yes, having a great time thanks. Leaving Oaxaca today to fly north for the Copper Canyon.

Frida looked like a royal as she sit so beautifully with her folded hands. Enjoy Mexico Sarah!
Sarah Wilkie
I see what you mean. I think her pose shows contentment in her relationship with Diego π
Monkey's Tale
Are you in Mexico now? For how long? We’ll be there in March.
Sarah Wilkie
Yes, until the 28th, so we won’t overlap. But it will be fun to compare notes via our respective blog posts!
Monkey's Tale
Oh too bad, so close! I’ll keep watch for great ideas from you!
Sarah Wilkie
I’ll only be posting a few brief impressions like this before March!

Welcome to Mexico. Try to see the Dolores Olmedo museum. I think it’s re-opened.
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you – however we’ve already moved on to Oaxaca!

Enjoy. You sort of crossed paths with my daughters who were there over the week-end for a weeding. Make sure you visit the church of Santo Domingo with its Arbol de la vida. Tree of life. Unique.
Sarah Wilkie
We were there yesterday, also in the museum with the amazing tomb treasures!

ππ» Perfect. My daughters also told me the weather was perfect. Enjoy.

Fond memories of a wonderful trip a few years back – looking forward to your post….
Sarah Wilkie
I’ll have loads to post about when we get home but still lots of holiday to have before that!
Marie
Well enjoy every minute. XXXMarie

And who is that gorgeous man with Frida and Diego haha
Sarah Wilkie
π On a serious note, he’s probably a local waiting to talk to a city official about some sort of problem. There were quite a few milling around in the courtyard.
