Greetings from Paris
The 2024 Olympic Games finished some weeks ago, but the torch is burning bright again in the Jardins des Tuileries, now for the Paralympic Games. It looked all the brighter on the dull day we saw it. You need a (free) ticket to get close but I was happy just to grab some photos from a distance.

Monkey's Tale
I saw this when it was published but didn’t have a chance to comment. Did you see any of the Paralympics?
Sarah Wilkie
Not in person, no, but there were some on TV in a couple of the bars we visited. We got quite caught up in a blind football match!

So you were there of course… (Green with envy. Not going this year, unless there’s a major change)
Enjoy Californahyay

Oh yes – wouldn’t miss it! Unless we had to, of course 🙂 And we found a fabulous little apartment at the Blvd Saint Germain end of the Rue Monge – message me if you’d like the details!
equinoxio21
St-Germain and Rue Monge? Yes, pray send details… 🙏🏻

Thank you Meg 🙂

Lucky you being back in Paris (to celebrate your anniversary, I think) and capturing a shot of the Olympic torch, too. Whereabouts in California are you going and for how long? That’s a LONG trip for you! I look forward to reading your posts. Bon voyage and safe travels.
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you Annie 🙂 We’re going to California for three weeks, driving around mostly parts we didn’t visit on our first trip there many years ago (coast north of San Francisco, Lake Tahoe, Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks, Death Valley) but also revisiting a few favourites (Yosemite and Mono Lake). We’ll finish in Las Vegas and fly home from there. It’s an eleven hour flight so on a par with parts of Asia and other west coast destinations we’ve been too. And being direct helps a lot – when we go to South America or Asia we often have to change planes somewhere so it can be 24 hours door to door – this feels relatively easy compared to some journeys we’ve undertaken!

There has been some stunning footage of this on tv. What a clever idea.
Sarah Wilkie
Yes, very effective 🙂 It’s usual to have the torch in the athletics stadium but then spectators attending other events don’t get to see it. Here it is on display for the whole city. I wonder if other hosts will follow this idea?

Fabulous to see
Sarah Wilkie
Yes, it really was!

Ah! One of your Pligrimages to Paris, with added Olympic Joy. Does it feel a bit like London did in 2012? I found the atmosphere then remarkable – so optimistic and positive.
Sarah Wilkie
We felt exactly the same in London but we’re not getting that vibe here. It’s friendly enough, but then we always find it so. There’s no particular sense of excitement in the air. We’ve seen the odd group of supporters from a few different countries but apart from that, this torch and some extra signage on the Metro, you wouldn’t know anything particular was going on. Maybe it was different during the main Olympics?
margaret21
Perhaps. I sense things calmed down for the Paralympics here too. I seem to remember my London family enjoying some of the events, and finding travelling to and from them easier too.

Great shot.
