When I told people we were going to Mexico, a frequent piece of advice was, make sure you visit Oaxaca. Itβs beautiful, they said, and the food is amazing! The advice however was unnecessary, as the city was already on my must-see list. And Oaxaca de JuΓ‘rez, to give it its full name, definitely lived up to my expectations.

Frida Kahlo's home in Coyoacan has become a place of pilgrimage for her admirers (I almost said worshippers) and a must-visit for anyone interested in art more generally. I promised you a virtual visit in my previous post about Coyoacan; here it is!

There is only one solution to the challenge of jet lag in my opinion. Not a cure, but a way to minimise its impact. And that is, to ignore it as much as possible, adopt the time of your destination as soon as possible and stay active.

Smaller galleries too, many less well known, and artistsβ studios such as those of Rodin and Delacroix. And now there is a new kid on the block, the Bourse de Commerce.

The Chicago suburb / dormitory town of Naperville is unlikely to be on most touristsβ radar, unless like me you have a friend who lives there. And yet there are sights to be seen. Actually, thatβs probably true of most places, isnβt it, if only we look?

One thing I always enjoy while travelling is to see artists at work or locals demonstrating local crafts. It helps me to understand and appreciate the artistic traditions of a country. It can also open my eyes to the amount of effort that has gone into creating some of the beautiful things I see around me.
