With colour one obtains an energy that seems to stem from witchcraft
Henri Matisse
How true is that?! And this too:
Colour is a power which directly influences the soul
Wassily Kandinsky
Bright colours have the power to lift the spirits just as sunshine does. Recently Ann Christine shared some Thursday Thoughts about the need for light and colour in the depths of winter. Her gallery of bright images gave me such a lift that decided to emulate her with my own uplifting (I hope) selection of colour. And like her I’ve opted to skim through my archives for a random set with the brightest colours I could find. I hope you enjoy them!

Good to hear Donna!

Excellent. I often do a colour post in winter for my E-friends stuck in winter. Mexico does lend itself to that.
You beat me to the line. 👍🏻
Sarah Wilkie
Seems I really must add Mexico to my go-to list!

It has its pros and cons. After 30 years living here, I get a bit tired of the so large city…

As colourful as a Mexican market!

Now that’s one place I haven’t been and would love to! I guess you’re on your way home now, pretty much? Be prepared to shiver!

Thank you – I did hope to get a few people smiling 😀

Sarah, not only has your collection of photos brightened my day, and made me long for warm summer days, but they also put me in the mood to remember my travels to places that I found intoxicating because of the abundance of color — the vivid hues of fabrics, leather and Zellij tiles in Morocco being foremost in my mind; but, also the pastel-painted bungalows in Florida; the colorfully painted Victorian houses of Cape May, NJ; fruit and vegetable stands wherever you find them; vivid hues and patterns of garments worn throughout the Caribbean and Hawaii; and the deep red sands of the Sahara!! Thanks for the mood lift and sharing your wonderful photos!
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you Sylvia, not just for the comment but also that colourful list 😀 Maybe you could do a blog post of colours from YOUR travels, like those?!

That’s an excellent idea, Sarah!! Thanks for that!

Love this! Couple of hair goals there too 😉.
Sarah Wilkie
Thanks Anabel 🙂 When we asked to photograph that girl in Seattle and admired her hair she told us her mother always dyed it for her. Great coffee there too!

A wonderful and colourful start to my day thanks Sarah 🙂
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you Brian – although I suspect you’re less in need of brightness and light than those of us stuck up here in the northern winter!
Marie
Brings a smile as well as a lift – really love that first one…..
Sarah Wilkie
That’s great to hear, thanks Marie 🙂

A vibrant post, Sarah! It seems that we have more gray days than usual this year, and your photos brightened my day. Thank you, my friend.
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you Kellye, I’m glad this had the intended effect 😀 I can’t wait for spring!

Hang on, it’s coming…

Yay for colour. I’m tired of winter…!

Me too!

Another superb selection of images Sarah
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you Malcolm 😊
Sandy
I am visually refreshed by your photos. It’s cold and grey outside, so it’s a fine substitute for sunshine. Lovely pictures but my favorite is the Red Stripe Beer shop and the purple hair mohawk guy (esp with the picture of the blasé woman in the background)
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you Sandy – ‘visually refreshed’ is a neat way of putting it 😀

Every one of those hit the spot,Sarah. But on balance, the ones I’ll take with me into the afternoon are the floral ones, with all the attendant connotations of a breezy country walk to lift the spirits.
Sarah Wilkie
Sounds good to me Margaret. I was tempted to choose only flowers but decided a more varied selection would have more impact 🙂
margaret21
Quite right. I really enjoyed this wide selection.

That wonderful header photo definitely made the rest of my day

This was a great lift to my very early morning, woke up at 2:30 a.m.! I might need to look at it again this afternoon!!
Sarah Wilkie
Oh wow, I thought I was awake early at 5.00! Glad to have given you a lift 😃
