O for a beaker full of the warm South,
Full of the true, the blushful Hippocrene,
With beaded bubbles winking at the brim,
And purple-stained mouth;
John Keats, Ode to a Nightingale
A brief extract from one of my favourite poems by one of my favourite poets to introduce a gallery of burgundy-red images. Of course this colour takes its name from a red wine, the French Burgundy, but we might just as well use the name of any other red wine to describe it. Indeed, according to Wikipedia, the French themselves tend to instead call the colour Bordeaux!
Whatever we call it we can find it in so many places, both in nature and man-made. I’ve been away travelling but with Terri’s helpful advance notice of this week’s Sunday Stills theme I trawled through my files before I went and unearthed these images, ready to post on my return.
More about those travels in due course (I was in Seville); for now, I hope you enjoy these ruby reds. You’ll even spot some wine among them!

Your pictures are such unique finds and masterpieces, Sarah. such variety of photos for this color. The bird, flower from the Botanic Garden, the Tuk-tuk, and the turban are my favorites. Fabulous choices from all around the world. You must have a million pictures by now, Sarah!
Sarah Wilkie
Haha Marsha – a million? Well yes, maybe, if you count all my rejects! Glad you enjoyed this selection 🙂
Marsha
I count rejects.
Tanja
I have a winter coat in this colour:) beautiful images
Sarah Wilkie
Ooh, it would be a lovely colour for a coat! I have one in a rather lighter version of this shade 🙂

A fabulously eclectic gallery.
Sarah Wilkie
Thanks Margaret – it is a bit of a hotchpotch but I had fun putting it together 😀
Tish Farrell
So many versions of this delicious shade.
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you Tish – yes, there are all sorts of variations and I’ve stretched the boundaries a little!
Tish Farrell

My favorite color, and favorite shade of red. My car is burgandy, too. I do enjoy most reds, Pinot Noir, Beaujolais and my go-to Merlot for evening snack. When my husband was a!I’ve he liked to choose from a variety of red wine, he liked Cabernet although I preferred a lighter wine.
Your gorgeous photos are a treat, as always.
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you 🙂 Burgundy seems to be a popular car colour choice! I like red wine too (and white ) – my favourites are Malbec and Rioja, but Merlot is a great lighter choice.

I love this beautiful collection of reds. I always take photos of the light shining through stained glass too.
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you – yes, I often look for this effect 🙂 This was the best colour match for the challenge but I have others too!
Terri Webster Schrandt
Such a fantastic variety of the rubywine color, Sarah! The dress on the folks is just such a rich ruby, and the automobiles all look great in that color. My own car is burgundy but I forgot to include the pic in my post, LOL! I giggle at several bloggers’ pics of wine, they just have to be included! Makes sense, since many of us enjoy our wine-inspired adult beverages this time of year. Always great to have you join Sunday Stills! Have a fab week!
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you Terri 🙂 Our first car was burgundy too – I probably have a photo tucked away somewhere but never thought to use it! And of course we had to include wine, it’s the first thing I thought of when I saw your colour choice 😉

Me? l love that turban on the wall, and I think the Kir is great because it reminded me of many happy evenings in France.
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you Mari 😀 Yes, in France it has to be a Kir or maybe a Pastis before dinner, while in Italy it must be Aperol Spritz or Campari Soda 😉
maristravels
Funny but in Italy it’s always a G. & T. I don’t know why but it just seems to fit the bill. I always go for the Kir Royale though!
Manja Maksimovič
A marvellous gallery! In Slovenian it’s also “bordo”. All the images look great together like this, but my favourites are the walls, especially the Marrakesh shot, but especially all the people at the start. You’re great with people!
Sarah Wilkie
Thanks so much Manja 😊 I do enjoy photographing people and those first two shots are among my own favourites so I’m happy you liked them too!
Tracey
Beautiful collection for the color challenge!
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you Tracey 🙂
