Travel snapshots from Toonsarah

Small fishing boat with a man in it, on a large lake
Around the world in ten photos: day five

Around the world in ten photos: day five

December 21, 2020

The fisherman

Early morning, and the sun has just climbed above the volcanoes that encircle the lake. A fisherman in a rowing boat drifts slowly, checking the net that he hopes will have captured some fish overnight.

Margaret of From Pyrenees to Pennines and Teresa of My Camera & I have both invited me to join them and other bloggers to post one favourite travel picture a day for ten days without explanation, then each day, nominate someone new to join in on the same terms. I don’t usually post a single photo on my blog; I like to tell a story. But for this challenge I’ll resist that temptation and instead play a guessing game with you all. So, does anyone know where this man is fishing?

And the answer is, Lake Atitlàn in Guatemala. My photo was taken from the lakeshore in Panajachel, a popular tourist base, early one morning.

I realise not everyone likes to be nominated for this sort of thing so I’m not nominating any more people. But if anyone else would like to join in the fun, please link back to this post as I’d love to see your photos!

Hi there Sarah! Yes I definitely would’ve known this to be Lake Atitan, we were here too just 2 years ago. (https://wordpress.com/post/awaywegomk.com/4566). I included a link to our post. It is such a tranquil place. We visited Central America for a month. We really enjoyed spending a couple days at Lake Atitlan. I was interested in doing this challenge, we are new to the community so any advice or help would be appreciated. =) I look forward to joining in on the fun. -Marlena

Hi! If you want to have a go just take the plunge and join in. Post a photo a day from a place you’ve visited on your travels. You can make it a guessing game and post the answer the following day, which is what I did (I’ve since edited the pages so the answer is with the photo). Have fun!

By the way, your link didn’t work (I think it must me an admin link) but I found your post anyway – https://awaywegomk.com/2020/09/10/lake-atitlan-guatemala-1-18-1-21/. You have some lovely photos of the lake 🙂

Thanks for that! Ok I will try, I am new to all this so hopefully I do the “ping back” accurately and tags that are needed…

Yes, you have it Anna – and I assume that means you can also take a good stab at which lake it is?!

Yes, spot on 😀 Any chance you know whereabouts on the lake the photo was taken (for bonus points 😆 )?

I have no idea why this comment went into my spam queue, nor why it only showed up just now (I check it daily). Anyway, yes of course 😆 😂 It was actually in Panjachel, the main tourist town on the lake, which is why I thought you just might be able to guess at it 😀

I know, I’m making some of these challenges a bit difficult for you all 😉 No, it’s not in Asia. I think anyone who’s been there will recognise the setting but there are no strong clues for anyone who hasn’t I guess.
